The dreaded baby registry. As soon as you become pregnant people will bombard you with their opinions on many things including what baby items are a must.
I know for one I went crazy getting items that I thought I absolutely needed with my first 7 years ago. Baby items have come a long way since then and when I started thinking about what we needed for Avery I became overwhelmed.
The market is saturated with items that claim they are a must have for moms and babies. Many of these items are items that I received but never even used. So besides the obvious car seat, stroller, diapers (I suggest registering for different sizes) and wipes here are what I consider the must have registry items to be.
To find out what you need for a successful breastfeeding journey check out Breastfeeding Essentials.
Crib
Obviously a place for the baby to sleep is the number one priority. Whether it be a crib, bassinet or a pack n’ play this should be the top priority on your baby registry list.
Check out this Child Craft Camden 4-n-1 Convertible Crib at Wayfair. This gorgeous crib is on sale too!
Another option is the HALO Bassinest Swivel Sleeper. This option is more expensive but I have heard amazing things for those that want to keep baby close by while they sleep.
Crib sheets
Crib sheets are a must. In fact, you need more then one. No matter which option you go with for where the baby sleeps you will need sheets to cover the pad or mattress. Plus there are so many cute ones out there so put a few on your baby registry. Check out ones that I love HERE, HERE, and HERE.
Bottles
Even if your breast feeding you may want to have a bottle too in the back of the cupboard just in case. I insisted that I was going to exclusively breastfeed from day one, however I realized that after my nipples were raw and the pain of Avery latching became just too much, pumping for a few days was the way to go. Thankfully I had bottles on hand to give the little lady pumped breast milk.
I love the Tommee Tippee bottles.
Bottle warmer
I know many people may say that a bottle warmer is not a must but it absolutely was in my household. Avery hates cold bottles and I love the convenience they provide.
Swaddle
Put at least 2 different types of swaddles on your registry. Not every swaddle will work for each baby so try a couple of different ones. Avery loved this HALO SleepSack Swaddle.
Sleepers
These are way easier to put on your baby then cute little outfits in those first few months. Also these are way easier to put on your baby. Bonus if the sleepers have zippers and not buttons because those buttons are terrible to manage when your running on little to no sleep.
Boppy
The bobby is such a versatile item. I have used it for breastfeeding, supervised naps and helping Avery sit up. My dog also loves to curl up in it thinking it is her own personal bed. Everyone needs a bobby. Check them out HERE to find your favorite pattern.
Carrier
I used a Boppy carrier that my mom had found before Babies R’ Us had closed. Sadly, I could only use it for about 3 months before Avery outgrew it. I have since moved on to THIS Ergo Baby Four Position carrier. I also have the MiaMily Hipster Plus and love it as well.
Baby Monitor
Even if you room share with your baby you may still need a monitor for nap time. There really are so many different options out there for video monitors and you can get one fairly inexpensive that has good quality. Check out the one that I have HERE.
Diaper Backpack
This diaper backpack has it all. Extra pockets inside to hold bottles, diapers, wipes and anything else you can imagine. I love the backpack style since they are so much easier to carry and bonus they can hook to the handle of the stroller. The one I have can be found HERE.
I am sure that I am forgetting something from this list so let me know what your must have was on your registry in the comments below. Are you a soon to be first time mom or not a mom at all; let me know what the coolest baby item you’ve heard about in the comments.
This is a great list for a registry. I always buy big diapers and clothes that are at bigger (such as 6 months) so that the baby can grow into them.
This is soooooooo true! What great content for new momma’s out there! I will have to keep this in mind for my friends and family !
Some amazing ideas! I am going to share this post with a friend of mine who is about to prepare her registry. I am sure she will find it very useful 🙂
One thing is for sure, you always buy things that you don’t use, then something you thought might come in handy ends up being the one thing you can’t live without. Looks like a very comprehensive guide here.
I didn’t realise that there was such a thing as a baby registry list 😊 These are all lovely picks. It’s very easy to get carried away with all the goodies out there isn’t it.
This is such a great list! It’ll be very helpful next time I’m invited to a baby shower!
Thank you!

I know three people who are expecting and this is such a great and timely list. I love your picks..definite musts!
great list of must haves! everyone thinks they need different things but this is pretty spot on for what we actually used
a good bottle warmer is a must have for me as well ! and a changing bag – now they make them so stylish
I agree with you on the Bobby. It’s a definite must have. Your diaper bag is everything though, I love it.
You are so right. I haven’t had a little one in the house for more than 20 years. But I also didn’t have all the fancy gadgets they have now and got along very well. I keep it simple when I shop for friends… onesies, blankets are great.
I just want the baby. How precious, nothing like the warm feeling of cuddling with a sleeping baby!
This is a perfect post for my best friend who just had a baby. Some of these will make great gifts!
Aww. Your baby is so cute. Anyway, I agree with you with the diaper bag lol!
