Healthy Habits for Kids

March 30, 2020 Comments : 34

I’s been a rough winter. Colds, flu, stomach bugs and now that COVID-19 has made it’s appearance in our community keeping ourselves and our kids healthy is priority number one. Many community schools have closed as well as restaurants and stores in an attempt to promote social distancing and limit the spread. Even with this, our kids and individuals in our community are still getting sick. So I have compiled a list of healthy habits for kids to adopt to keep them healthy all year long!

Healthy habits that kids can adopt today to keep them healthy year round and during times of a pandemic. | Healthy kids | Healthy Living | Kids | Kid Life |

Healthy Habits for Kids

Hand Washing

This tops my healthy habits for kids list because it is the one thing that you can do all year round to keep your children healthy. Encourage good hand hygiene every day and not just because the CDC told you to.

Get outside

Get out and get some fresh air. Being stuck inside the house all day, everyday as a child is absolute torture. Let them outside and play. Take family walks. Avoid places that will be crowded such as local beaches and parks. Try to get out and doing something outside at least once a day.

Fruits & Veggies

I type this as my child is on his third snack of fruit snacks this morning. The amount of snacks my child has eaten lately is a little ridiculous. Eating more fruits and veggies is only going to help your child in staying healthy.

Healthy habits that kids can adopt today to keep them healthy year round and during times of a pandemic. | Healthy kids | Healthy Living | Kids | Kid Life |

Drink up

No I am not talking about the parents, even though many days we feel like it especially being stuck at home. Make sure that kids are getting plenty of water to drink throughout the day. I know I am constantly reminding my son to drink his water throughout the day. Especially after going outside and burning energy. Keep them hydrated to keep them healthy!

Sleep

I know this time feels like a never ending vacation for kids but it is super important that they still get enough sleep. Not only will it allow them to be more focused the next day but when my son doesn’t get enough sleep he tends to be a bear. And no one wants to be around a bear when they are stuck inside.

Multivitamins/Probiotics

Multivitamins and probiotics is a great healthy habit for your children to have. probiotics are a great way to help with digestion and immune system function and are particularly helpful in kids who have gastrointestinal problems such as constipation. My favorite product to give Hayden is the combo gummy that can be found HERE. There are so many other options available for kids so find what works well with your child.

Routine

Try and stick to a routine as much as you can. Wondering how to keep a routine for homeschooling during the school shut down? Check out my latest post on How to Homeschool as a Working Mom

Healthy habits that kids can adopt today to keep them healthy year round and during times of a pandemic. | Healthy kids | Healthy Living | Kids | Kid Life |

Stay Home

The most important healthy habits for kids right now is to stay home. Leave them at home with another parent while you go to the grocery store, or to the store to get other essential items. Ditch the play dates and only have them around other adults or kids if you absolutely need to. Stay home as much as possible to limit the spread of this virus.

Hopefully everyone is staying healthy right now. Anymore healthy habits for kids that you suggest? Let me know in the comments!

Definitely agree with all of this! The area I could probably use improvement on is routine. While we have great dinner to bedtime routine the rest of the day can be pretty sporadic!

Getting outside has been super important for us these last couple of weeks. Some of these routines we definitely need to work on. My toddlers will eat plenty of fruit, but I have a hard time getting them to consume any protein! Constantly worried about their picky eating.

These are great habits to start with the kids, even at a young age. Routine is so important so I think it’s crucial to start early and these routines quickly become habits we don’t have to keep reiterating. The sleep one has kinda gone out the window right now with everybody home and our schedules turned upside down but I can definitely see it’s had a negative effect and we need to get back to our norm.
