Maine living is really like no other. There are mountains, beaches, cities and incredible places to visit and eat. Summer time is a great time to get out and explore Maine. especially if you have kids. Sometimes though, these places are not well known especially for those that are visiting the state. So here are my favorites things to do in Maine with kds.
Things to do in Maine with Kids
Fort Williams Park
This park has it all. Cool forts to explore with the kids, a small beach area, picnic tables and a lighthouse. Not to mention a small playground, fields and many areas to walk around. They also have a food truck or at least there was one when we went. Did I mention that it is free (except for parking)? It’s also close to local beaches so a great way to either start or end your beach day. Learn more about Fort Williams Park and plan your visit.
Children’s Museum
We have yet to visit the new Children’s Museum in Portland since it just opened last week. It is on our list of places to visit this summer though! However, from what I have heard and seen in the press, this place is going to be so cool for kids to visit and explore more about science, marine life and technology. There are many interactive exhibits such as place to climb, explore the power of water and see an observation beehive. Learn more about the museum and theatre HERE.
Boothbay Botanical Gardens
I love love love Boothbay Botanical Gardens. It is so beautiful and we love visiting during the holiday season for the lights. This summer they have the Guardian of the Seeds trolls that were added to the gardens which kids will love to explore and find. The sculptures are huge and strategically placed throughout the gardens. It’s the perfect place to spend a few hours looking around, hanging out on the grassy areas and digging in the children’s garden. They also offer a cafe to grab and go items to snack on while there.
Acadia National Park
I have written about Acadia before and it is still one of my all time favorite places to visit in Maine. There is so much to do and hard to get it all done in one day. They have hiking, a beach, and Cadillac Mountain (which you have to reserve space ahead of time now). To see kid friendly hikes in Acadia National Park check it out HERE. Desert Island is also a fun place to explore after you visit the park with local restaurants, parks and shops.
Sebasco Harbor Resort
Are looking for a fun place to stay this summer that has it all for the family? Then you need to check out Sebasco Harbor Resort. They have a pool (which my kids love!), activities for the kids, lobster bakes and a game room that includes candle pin bowling and ping pong tables among other activities. It is just a drive away from local beaches and a small city with shops and restaurants to explore if you chose. I may be a little biased since my sister used to work here so I have spent a long time at this place but I promise you if you are looking for a fun, gamily getaway to the coast of Maine then make sure Sebasco Harbor Resort is on your list.
These are just a couple of my favorite places to visit with kids in Maine. Let me know your favorites in the comments!
Keeping kids busy on vacation is always a challenge. Maine is such a beautiful state I’d definitely take them all over
Looks like a lovely place to visit, but way too far away from Belgium
I cannot wait to take my kids to these places! We got married on the beach off fort williams and my kids have yet to visit!
