We took a little weekend vacation this past weekend to Rhode Island. Not only do we have family that lives in Rhode Island but my parents actually met in Newport. We thought it might be a fun time to go down and visit family while taking some time to visit Newport.
Also, just so you know none of this trip was sponsored. Just wanted to share our trip with all my readers!
Places to Stay
There are so many places that you can stay in Newport or it’s surrounding areas. My sister scored an amazing Air B n B in Narraganset, Rhode Island that offered 5 rooms to sleep everyone. It was a gorgeous house that honestly was a lot less expensive then what we would have paid at a hotel. It also allowed us to gather with other family members in an open, comfortable space.
If your not familiar with Narraganset, it is a small town on the coast that increases dramatically in population during the summer months. It is also about a 20 minute drive to Newport so for us it was close enough.
It would be nice to come back here in the summer months to spend time at the beach or pursuing the shops and restaurants but I’m doubtful we would be able to find a place that was affordable and not already booked.
If you really want to stay in Newport there are a wide range of hotels with varying prices. One fun place that I saw was Gurney’s Resort Newport set on Goat Island which is set on a small little island off of Newport. It offers pools, a spa, restaurants, a director of fun notifying you of activities available such as yoga, bike rentals, wine tasting, crafts and more! They also have a kid’s club (seasonally) which keeps the kids busy while the parents relax. Next time we go to Newport I am booking a stay here. For more information check out their website https://www.gurneysresorts.com/newport
Winery
One of my favorite wines come from Newport Winery. I have always loved their Bellevue Blush and when I knew we were going to Newport I made sure that we stopped off at the winery to do a wine tasting.
Wine tasting is only $15.00/person and you get to keep the wine glass! Plus they also have a beer tasting as well if that is more up your alley.
You may be thinking that a winery is not really a place for children, and you are probably right, but there website says they are child friendly and there was a ton of outdoor space which allowed the children to run around and play freely. The Mansions
One main draw of Newport, Rhode Island is the mansions. Honestly I wasn’t sure that we were going to be able to make it through fully with the kids but they absolutely loved listening to the history the tours had to offer.
Another nice thing about the mansions around the holiday time is that they are completely decked out for Christmas time. It was fun to see how these lavish places decorate for the holidays and to learn a little bit about the history behind them and the families that lived there.

My advice if your going to visit the mansions that you pick which ones you really want to see. We picked the two biggest ones to tour while we were in Newport. The Breakers and the Elms. Anymore I am sure the kids would have had enough. Also, the mansions do not allow strollers so bring your favorite baby carrier if you plan to bring a baby with you.

Cliff Walk
Sadly we didn’t get to do the cliff walk this visit due to the rain but I have done it in the past. It is a 3.5 mile trail that makes it’s way along the coast. It is absolutely beautiful with stunning views of both the water and the backside of the many expensive houses that reside on the waterfront. You can find out more information about this by heading to Cliffwalk.com.
Newport creamery
We had lunch here in between one of the mansions and the winery. It was well priced and the food was good but the main draw of this place seems to be the ice cream. They have a full menu just for their ice cream and sundaes. To find all their locations and to check out their ice cream menu head to https://www.newportcreamery.com/
We had such a fun time and the kids were well behaved for the most part. One thing that I was grateful to have was my Misfit Vapor 2 smart watch (sponsored, see my full disclosures HERE) to wear throughout our little adventures. This watch not only keeps track of your steps and heart rate but can also show you the weather, e-mails, text messages and calendar. It is also water proof so when it started to pour while we were out exploring I was not worried the watch would get damaged. The straps can easily be changed out making this the perfect addition to any outfit. Check out all that they have to offer at https://misfit.com/products/misfit-vapor-2/
